I can't access my banks credit card

and I used to ...

I'm using Quicken 2012 Deluxe.

I enter my username and password and when I enter the site it ALWAYS asks a secret question which it didn't before. I answer it and it goes back and forth saying its retrieving data and finally goes to the screen where it should say complete but gives me an CC-585 error.

Explanation of the error: Your financial institution has added a new security feature that requires your attention before your account can be updated.

I can go to the website and enter name and password and I can access the account perfectly. This all started when I deactivated the account and then tried to re-activate it.

Dumb move but I could have sworn that in one of the windows it said to do that ... oh well!!

Any ideas ???

TIA

Bob

Hi, Bob.

I've run into similar "secret questions" at some sites. They worry me!

They are asking me NEW questions! ("Your first elementary school?" "Your first car?"...) I'm pretty sure I never told them the answers to THAT before. So, no matter what I type in, how can they compare it to my previous input?

I'm becoming increasingly worried that some "black hat" has infiltrated THEIR website and is collecting facts from me that will be used to build a database about me. The bad guy has somehow inserted his question ahead of my organization's legitimate website; after I answer the question, I'm allowed to proceed to the REAL website, so the minor interruption in my sign-on doesn't trigger my indignation and cause me to investigate further.

This is not the same as the legitimate-but-intimidating - and often infuriating - "Captcha" feature that asks me to type in words/numbers that are displayed - but distorted - on my screen. Those are supposed to prove that I am an actual human, not some "bot" trying to get into the secure site. But the distortions are so bad that my eyes cannot always distinguish the letters. It's easy to get a second set of characters, but they are just as bad as the first. So I ask for the characters to be read to me, but the computer's voice and diction is so bad that this is no help, either. So I just give up. Luckily, this hasn't yet happened to me on any website that I really need to access.

But I'm growing increasingly worried. :

This exact situation happened to me with a credit union. The download was working OK but the CU added an extra secret question. This broke the download in Quicken so that I always had to resubmit the download a second time (which worked). I deactivated the account and then tried to reactivate it to add the answer to the secret question. Now, Quicken is unable to connect to the account at all and I have to enter transactions manually. I have been through all of the troubleshooting suggestions on Quicken's site with no luck. Please post back if you are able solve the problem to let us know what worked. Thanks.

You probably did but don't remember.

So try this. Give a fake answer. What happens? Give another fake answer. What happens? Give the RIGHT answer? What happens?

R.C. is right.

My local credit union, whose site I log into almost daily, suddenly chose random security questions.

I had to manually reset the questions.

RC, if you are worried, then the answer is Abraham Lincoln.

What was your first school? - Abraham Lincoln Who was the best man at your wedding? - Abraham Lincoln What was your first car? - Abraham Lincoln What was your mothers maiden name? - Abraham Lincoln

It doesn't have to be true, just memorable.

We don't know who's right without knowing for sure that the OP never answered those questions.

This is SO MUCH MORE helpful than the garbage posted by Quicken regarding error CC-585.
