I want to learn

Hi, Greetings,

I am not from financial background.

I want to learn accounts and quicken.

I plan to do international accounting. I am from India, here people use Tally which I dont know. But some companies work for US accounting from India. They may hire me if I learn about US accounting. It can be with quicken or quickbooks.

Basically I want to earn by providing accounting service, if possible.

Generally speaking, Quicken is for "individuals", and QuickBooks is for "businesses". Though Quicken does have some very limited features for small businesses.

The learning curve for Quicken is not trivial, but it's not extremely difficult either.

I don't think you can get the information and experience you will need by having other users attempt to instruct you in how to use Quicken - starting from scratch. I think other Quicken users are better at answering specific questions, than trying to teach someone everything they need to know about how to use Quicken.

Quicken has VERY limited capabilities for "international accounting".

[Quicken has a version for the PC and a separate version for the Mac (there are significant differences between the two): you didn't say which computer you have. Some links I've provided apply to the Windows versions.]

If you want to learn how to use Quicken, I suggest you plan to purchase and install Quicken - probably the "Starter" edition (

Once you have Quicken installed, you can use the Help > Getting Started Guide, Help > How to videos, and Help > Tips & Tutorials to assist you in learning the product.

I would plan to begin with a small subset of your own financial data (checking, savings, credit card, investment accounts) and try out various Quicken features. When you run into something you can't figure out (after having checked Help > Quicken Help), you can come here and post a specific question.

My thoughts:

This NG is primarily for Quicken which is *not* an accounting package. it's a *personal* finance software product. As you mention, Quickbooks (made by Intuit, a separate company from Quicken Inc. who makes Quicken) is what many small companies use.

A newsgroup that might be more appropriate for you to discuss your topics would be: alt.comp.software.financial.quickbooks .
