IngDirect download in Quicken

Hello,

I just signed up for an ING account.

I wanted to intitiate the download inside of Quicken. It appears ING downloads require a browser intitiation prior to starting the download "from the browser". Bummer. ;-(

Is this true? Can I NOT initiate a ING_to_Quicken download from within Quicken?

If this is the case, can anyone recommend another bank.

I'm going to drop GM_Demand_Note account cause they only support QIF downloads. I intended to jump to ING for seamless integration with Quicken. This isn't as seamless as I wanted. ;-)

TIA

ING's security uses a username and password plus a rotating extra ID. In my case this is something like the first or last 3 or 4 digits of my national ID, or the year of my birth. Becuase of the constantly changing nature of this last ID, ther is no automatic login like most US banks have. AT least it is simpler than the ABNAmro bank which requires 2 ID like questions, plus an extra number. This is computed from a number presented by the website. You have to insert a smartcard into a reader, enter an ID phrase, then the number from the website. Then the reader computes the extra number, which you enter into the website. This last charade has to be repeated for each transaction you perform with the bank ... It's probably secure, but it does require patience, and I don't know what happens when the battery in the reader has run out. Probably it requires a 3-week trip to Holland .

Yes, I see. This is too bad. I don't see ING bank lasting long for me. However, since they gave me $50 for signing up, I think I'll hang on for a bit. ;-)

Are you serious? What a major hassle!

I believe that may be where the phrase "RU F'ING kidding me?" originated.

If you check ING Direct on the list of Quicken's Participating Financial Institutions, you will see they only offer WebConnect, which is browser-based. They do not offer DirectConnect which is seamless.

Thanks for the clarification. This will help if I evaluate another choice someday. Regards, HS

Just an FYI, I've had an ING account for a few years now and they used to have direct-connect from within Quicken but changed (backwards in my opinion) to only web-connect because they claimed they had better security with forcing the password and the rotating question. Maybe Intuit will add some form of real two-factor authentication capability in the future. Etrade is taking the initiative with giving out free SecurIDs to their customers. If they start requiring it to be used, that will break the current direct-connect from within Quicken unless Intuit adds support for it.
