Vanguard Download Gets Lumped into One Account

When I download transactions from Vanguard, they all go into one mutual fund account, even though I have several Vanguard mutual funds. When I try and set up online services for the other accounts, I get a message saying that they're already registered at Vanguard.

Any idea how to rectify this situation, and keep the downloaded transactions from going into one account?

Buck, Do you have multiple accounts, or just multiple mutual funds in a single account. It sounds like the latter. If Vanguard considers you to have a single account with multiple funds, then the download will want all funds in a single account. You probably know the answer, but if not, check a recent statement.

Yes, it's the latter. Does this mean I'm stuck? Thanks.

I don't understand why you would want separate accounts for each fund, but if you're willing to give up Direct downloads, you should be able to go to Vanguard's web site and initiate a download from there, where you get the option to download each fund to a separate Quicken account.

What Vanguard does is identify each fund with a fund number and an Vanguard account number. All Vanguard funds with the same account number go into the same Quicken account in Direct downloads. So to get the downloads you want, you need a different account number for each grouping. For example I have different account numbers for taxable, IRA, and Roth accounts I have at Vanguard. If you open a new fund, make sure they use the account number for the right grouping. I bought a new IRA fund and they used my taxable account number as a default instead of my IRA account number. It downloaded to the "wrong" account in Quicken although Vanguard had it in the correct group. They didn't understand when I called up to ask them to change the account number but they did it anyway. Fixed the problem.

That's very helpful. I'll call them and see if I can get them to change it.

what's the perceived problem you are having ???

I have: Fidelity - one normal Joint and two IRA accounts - download several funds into each/separate type of account TRowe - still uses separate account for each and every fund - bummer long list on side bar Vanguard - one normal Joint and one just Mine - several funds downloaded into each

All is good.... with the single account, have to click and open to see the current balances with the TR since it's a 1 to 1 mataching, the side ar lists the balance without opening... since it's the same.

Is it possible to combine them into one single account? I have several years of history, and can't really manually enter in the transactions.

You said that you have years of history.... ??? what does that mean ? Not sure what you want to do ??? I'm confused...

The downloaded transactions reflect the specific mutual fund within a given account. If you only have a single account with Vanguard, then that's the way it works. The downloads merely reflect what you see on your Vanguard statements or online.

It sounds liek you have a number of mutual funds, each in a seperate account.

If so, check off only one mutual fund at a time and save the download file, then import it (you can import Web Connect file into Quicken).

One problem I have is that I have one account for Vanguard, which include my brokerage account. What I have to do is download my brokerage account funds seperately from Vanguard, but before I do I have to remove the online connection for the account, the when I import I have to select the account I have to download into.

I would seperate them but there is no practicle way to do it since you can not export/import quicken files any more.

Right now this does not even work for my Vanguard mutual funds. I did a few weeks ago, but not right now. I have reported it to Vanguard but have not followed up on a resolution.

Personally, I'm pissed that Quicken does not give you the capability to export/import QIF or Web Connect files. I would convert to MS Money, but Money for some reason can not convert my Quicken file.
