The Intuit rep did not ask me to uninstall or delete the downloaded copy. I suppose technically I should have uninstalled the download and then installed from the newly purchased CD. But that seemed too much of a redundant process. So I left the downloaded version installed and just filed the CD in my box of installed software CDs. I'm assuming the installations are identical.
There's really no way Intuit can ensure that people who return the software (and don't purchase elsewhere) actually stop using it. This is why many (if not most) manufacturers offer a trial version w/ no refunds. Frankly I'm surprised Intuit doesn't adopt this typical shareware model. But since I'm an honest person, I actually did go buy the software and deleted the downloaded version. I guess if Intuit decides they're getting ripped off by people returning the download and actually continuing to use it, they'll no longer make the download available or offer a trial w/o refunds. Kind of strange they're so trusting now, when I think back to the macrovision/TurboTax debacle of a few years back.
I initially looked for instructions on how to return the software but couldn't find any. I had to dig around to find out how to do the return. Here's the page:
