Is there a way to NOT download previous transactions when setting up online services?

I aked this in Quicken LC, but then though I might find real answers here....

I am doing a conversion from MS Money. When I set up online services I get 6 (or more) months of downloaded transactions from every account I set up, and that results in hundreds of transactions which don't match for some reason or other and get classified as new. I can't accept them all because then everything is out of balance. I just balanced everything in Money, I don't need to do it again, and deleting the transactions one by one (2 or 3 clicks per) is a total PIA. Not to mention it's all in this small window that I can't resize.

Is there any way to avoid all this? Either not download when I create online services, or some way to delete lots of downloaded transactions at the same time, or whatever.

Thanks for any suggestions

I have never switched from Money to Quicken, so my opinions don't carry any weight.

IMNSHO, the real question is whether everything balances out correctly in Quicken. If it does, I'd be inclined to delete all the downloaded transactions - which may be a pain to do by itself.

If things don't balance in Quicken, you may be forced to look at every downloaded tranaction to see whether it "helps" in the balancing. Moreover, you would learn whether Quicken can make the "right" transfer corrections between accounts.

There's a relatively easy way to delete multiple downloaded transactions at one time; it's been posted here and in the Quicken Live community in the past.

Assuming you have processed all the downloaded transactions you want to keep, and all that remains are "New" transactions that you want to delete:

1.) Add a dummy transaction to the register with something easily recognizable in the Memo field. 2.) Do an "Accept all". 3.) Sort the register on "Order entered" (probably in the Account Actions drop down). 4.) Select all the "new" transactions (which will be the last transactions in the register), starting with the dummy transaction thru the last transaction ... as you would select multiple files in Windows Explorer. 5.) Click Edit > Transaction > Delete.

Backup first.

I had searched both sources but couldn't find anything that seemed relevant.

This procedure should do it. Thanks!

I my case, the real question is:

How do I match transactions that Quicken does not auto match, party because the dates used by my imported Money database were based on the date I wrote the check and not the date the transaction posted at my bank.

This is an "Epic Fail", show stopper condition for me that totally hoses my account balances. I'm using Quicken 2011 Deluxe.

Two ways: Do a manual match, or change the date of the transaction. I often put *my* date in the comment field and the bank's date in the date field, to facilitate matching. On the other hand, check number and amount may be the main criteria for matching by Quicken.

Not nearly as Epic a Fail as Money.

Yes, Microsoft pulled the plug on Money to focus on web based financial apps. Isn't Intuit doing the same in the not too distant future?

Intuit is hoping that web based Mint will become their flagship financial app but claims they will maintain the desktop app for the time being.
