Moving Investment Fund

I did a corporate Spin-off for Duke and Spectra and now both files are listed under my Duke folder. Folder Duke +DUK +SE I cannot find information on how to move accounts. I will appreciate it if someone can tell me how to do this:

Hi, Sylvia.

How do you hold your Duke and Spectra stock: In a broker account, or as actual certificates? And how do you record them in Quicken: As a separate Investment Account for each stock?

If you had Duke in an Investment Account, and recorded the spin-off, then the Spectra shares would be in the same account with Duke until you moved them in some way. If each stock is in its own account, you should probably create a new Investment Account for Spectra, then use Shares Out/Shares In to move the new shares.

If I have misunderstood your question, please post back. Tell us how you actually hold the shares, and how you've recorded your Duke holdings in Quicken. Also, please tell us which versions of Quicken and Windows you are using. (For example, I'm running Quicken 2007 Basic in Vista Ultimate x64.)

Sorry, I am using Quicken Deluxe 2006, Windows XP MCE.

The stock is held by Duke and Spectra and I have my stocks recorded as separate Investment Accounts. I have created a new account for Spectra but unsure how to move them. Would I open the new Spectra account and then use Shares In?

Hi, Sylvia.

I was afraid you were going to ask that. :^{

I don't think I ever actually moved shares between accounts; if I did, it was several years ago, before Quicken changed a few things. John Pollard or someone else is hereby invited to jump in and correct or complete my instructions.

I THINK you would open your Duke account and use Remove Shares. Then open your new Spectra...NOPE! I found it just a little further down in the Enter transaction drop-down menu: It's "Shares Transferred Between Accounts". Start in your Duke account and move the Spectra to your new Spectra account.

Let us know how this works for you.
