Problem installing Quicken 2008 Premiere on new computer

I just bought a new computer with Win7. After reinstalling Q08 and updating to r9 I backed up my datafile onto my shared hard drive. I then restored the file from my new computer but my online payees list wasn't there. Did I do something wrong? TIA

Not an answer to your question, but...

You may want to consider a newer version, as Q08 sunsets in April.

It's possible you didn't get all the Windows files in your backup/restore (the .qel file would be my guess) ... though, if that's true, you should see some other problems as well.

I think if you do a One Step Update with your billpayer selected, you'll get your Online Payee list back.

You are correct, sir. Some transactions in my checking acct no longer have the lightening bolt graphic on it identifying it as a online transaction.

I did the update and you were right again. It did repopulate my online payees, but it also downloaded several hundred transactions in my checking acct that had to be accepted/rejected/matched or whatever which I didnt feel like dealing with so I just deleted the file and started over again. This time the restore worked great and everything is where its supposed to be.

So it was either a bad backup or a bad restore?

Anyway, thanks for such a quick, accurate response John.

That would be one of the "other problems" I mentioned.

That would be my guess.

I think the missing ".qel" file I mentioned would create the problems you experienced. The .qel file contains lots of your online data, such as online payees and the identifiers of previously downloaded transactions. Quicken will create a brand new empty .qel file if it doesn't find one when it opens your fileset. Online payees can be repopulated because your billpayer usually keeps the same list ... but those financial institution transaction id's ("FITID's) that uniquely identify downloaded transactions can't be regenerated. So Quicken no longer knows which transactions you already downloaded.
