Q2005 crash adding security

Nov 22, 2005 3 Replies

I have been having a problem that may have still been there in Q2004. When my investment account downloads a new security, Quicken crashes when I try to add it. The workaround has been that I would first go into the securities list and add the new security. Then it is no longer a new security when I process the downloaded investment account.

However, I cannot do it with the renaming of SBC to AT&T INC COM. The company changed its name but not its symbol. The program dies when I try to add AT&T INC COM through the download dialog. The program dies when I try to select Southwest Bell (the defaults, since the symbol is still SBC) through the download dialog. The program dies when I try to rename the name of Southwest Bell to AT&T INC COM keeping symbol. SBC in the securities list. The program refuses to add name AT&T with symbol SBC while there is still name Southwest Bell with symbol SBC. I still have AT & T CORP with symbol T for historical purposes. I guess I could try deleting that, but the suggest name of the new security is AT&T INC COM. Also, I try deleting the name of Southwest Bell with symbol SBC first won't I loose my history?

Any suggestions much appreciated. ...Ron Young

I think your data is corrupted. Have you tried Validating your data? Backup first.

Validate found no errors. It still crashes.

SuperValidate found no errors. It still crashes.

Just to cover all the bases: backup; then try disabling (deactivating?) all your accounts for online access (transaction download?); make a Quicken copy of your data fileset; then super-validate the copy.

For a long shot, you could try renaming QDATA.qph where QDATA is the name of your Quicken data and the .qph file is your price history.

You could also try reinstalling Quicken.
