Q2008D splash screen

I have Q2008 Deluxe which I've been running for a year or so after upgrading from Q2006D. Every time I crank up Q2008, the splash screen shows Q2006. When I choose help/about, I see Quicken Deluxe 2008 R9.

Coincidentaly, I received a letter from Intuit today telling me that their records show I'm using Q2006 and it will be sunsetted on 4/30/09.

Is this just a coincidence or is my Q2008 going to be sunsetted early due to this issue?

I'm running Vista/64 bit and have had no trouble with Q (that I'm aware of).

I think this is old sort of news... See if this clears the display: Using notepad for example, look in your C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\QUICKEN.INI for [MarketingMessages] and comment out [semi-colon (';') ] all of the lines there leaving only the [MarketingMessages] Header un-commented. That might help. Geo.

The pathname left out the Config subdirectory: It's in

C:\Documents and Settings\All >> Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\Config\QUICKEN.INI

In Q2009, the splash graphic is the file splash.png in the top Quicken directory.

Running Q2008 DL (US). This is my marketing portion in the (finally found) relevant quicken.ini file:

[MarketingMessages] SplashExpiredSplashBID That's all, and my Quicken installation works (I think).

Oops, I do get a short display of the splash screen and the startup sound. Other than irritate my spouse, if the sound is set to too loud, no problem for me. Running Vista Home Basic on an Acer laptop (souped up).

I replaced the splash.png with the one you just provided elsewhere, and the startup screen isn't visible anymore (so it was the right one I replaced). Startup isn't really speeded up much, though. Now which is the startup sound to replace with a little "ting"?

Walt,

I am unable to access that directory in Vista/64 bit. I get an access is denied error screen.

I can get to an Intuit folder via my user name/app data/roaming/intuit. But it's not the correct folder. The ini files I found did not contain the data I'm looking for.

I thought I did. In fact I must have because the register option doesn't appear under Help.

"Choose Help menu > Register Quicken (this menu item does not appear if you've already registered your Quicken software). "

You probably need administrator priviliges.

I have admin privileges, such as it is with Vista. Even when I run Windows Explorer as admin, I get the same access is denied error msg attempting to open the C:\documents and settings folder... which is a shortcut anyway.

You don't want the "documents and settings" folder; that's an XP folder.

In Vista the folder you want is in the :\Users\ path.

I don't have Vista, so I'm just guessing from other posts I've read.

I also think you want the Vista equivalent of "All Users" rather than a specific user folder. I'm prettty sure the Quicken.ini files are for all users (not one per user); someone with Vista should be able to give you the exact path.

And you'll probably need to give yourself permission to see all files; hidden, system, whatever. Another user also said to use "Advanced Mode" search.

For me, the relevant quicken.ini was in C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken\Config

I tried that too with no luck. Taking a clue from Han's post below, I went into my progam files (x86) folder and under Quicken, couldn't find a Quicken.ini file.

I'm stumped as to where to look for this. I've searched the entire C:\ drive and can't find it.

One unusual thing about the splash screen in question is that is also has a BB&T logo on it. Would that provide another clue where to look?

Did you find a splash file? Probably "splash.png", possibly "splash.bmp".

My Q2009 plain splash screen ("splash.png") is located in:

:\Program Files\Q2009

where Quicken is installed.

Well those come from folders whose names are actually 5 digit numbers in Windows XP. I think the numbers are financial institution identifiers for Intuit.

My Q2009 Bank of America splash screen is located in:

:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\06526

I'm not sure what the Vista equivalent is ... but probably in the Users folder.

Hi, Speedlever.

I'm a little late to this thread, but I have comments on a couple of subjects.

First, I got the Q2006 letter just today, although I also bought and registered Q2007, Q2008 and Q2009. I think this is just Intuit's marketing department trying to Sell! Sell! Sell! Not really a registration issue at all. Since I already bought Q2009D from Best Buy for $39.99 back in September, I'm not interested in their "special" price of $39.99, although the "free" WillMaker Plus is tempting.

But my splash screen does say 2009. If you are concerned that your 2008 version says 2006, then you may want to see if you can locate the splash.png file from your 2008 CD and copy it to your Quicken folder. (See my other post in this thread.)

Hi, Speedlever.

As John said, leave "documents and settings" behind, along with WinXP and your WinXP mindset. That's not meant as a putdown, but Vista does require a new mindset adjustment from WinXP and that's the biggest hump for most users to get over. Once you accept that "we're not in Kansas anymore", lots of other Vista features start to make sense. After that adjustment, a few weeks later, most Vista users no longer want to go back to WinXP. ; Han wrote in news:Xns9B9D66DA7EFBCikkezelf@

RC and John,

I'll respond in this one post.

I have been running Vista for 2 or 3 years now, so I'm reasonably familiar with where things are. I tried to qualify my issue by indicating my usage of Vista in the OP, but thought I'd try the suggested XP storage places since I couldn't find this in the usual Vista places.

Yes, I do have a 2008 Quicken splash screen in my PF86/Quicken installation folder.

Even though the correct splash screen is in my PF86 Quicken files, that splash screen never shows. As I was writing this post, I did some more searching and found what I was looking for. See below for the resolution.

I found some files John mentioned that were just numbered. They are located in my C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken files.

In one of those files, I found the offending splash screen labeled splash.bmp.

I renamed the extension on that file, started Q and now get the

2008 splash screen as would be expected. If I restore the extension as before, I get the BB&T Q2006 splash screen. Somwhere my Q installation has been directed to look for that bmp splash screen in that particular location rather than the png file in the normal location where Q is installed.

Thanks for all the help guys. I appreciate the effort.
