Wrong Splash Screen

I'm one of those forced to buy Q2009 by the sunsetting of Q2006, which in-turn was forced on me by the sunsetting of Q2003.

I waited until the final few days of Q2006 before installing Q2009, hoping that bug fixes would take care of the problems I have been hearing about.

It doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence, however, when I startup Q2009 and the splash screen says "Quicken 2007"!!! I have never owned or installed anything in between Q2006 and Q2009. Oh, well...

When you go to the "Help" menu and select "About Quicken", what version does it show?

It shows 2009 Deluxe Release R 5 -- it's just the startup splash screen that is wrong.

Did 'Me' ever get the wrong splash screen issue resolved? I too have the same problem in that Q2009 starts up with Q2008's logo, even though there is a 'splash.png' file (for 2009) right in the main Quicken directory.

If you're running XP, take a look in

...\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Intuit

and you'll probably find the offending splash file. Different versions of the program apparently use different rules for storing and finding the files, and the uninstall/install routines don't seem to do a very good job of cleaning things up.

The field will probably be "All Users", but might be under some user ID.

Thanks Bert.

Interesting. Under \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\10898 (a little longer path than you had) I did indeed find splash.bmp. When I renamed this to splash.xxx, Q seems to have picked up the \Program Files\Quicken\splash.png and it now seems to work ok. The dates associated to that other file (the Q2008 splash, splash.bmp as well as some other .bmp files) are all early THIS YEAR, well after I bought Q2009 LAST year. WTF??

Well, until something goes wrong, I'm going to simply live with the 'problem'. I supposed I could keep the offending one named splash.xxx, but who knows what Q might do if I do something under the covers.

I don't know enough about XP to understand why Quicken has files in such totally different locations on my 'c' drive!

It could just be that the person who assembled the installation media for that release of Quicken didn't know much about XP either.

FWIW here are my splash file locations for Q08 H&B on Windows Vista SP1:

1) C:\Program Files\Quicken\splash.png 2) C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken\Sku\Deluxe\Custom\splash.png 3) C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken\Sku\H&B\Custom\splash.png 4) C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken\Sku\Premier\Custom\splash.png 5) C:\Users\\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken\10898\SPLASH.BMP 1) is the normal Q08 H&B startup splash screen. 2) to 4) are the normal startup splash screens for Q08 Deluxe, H&B and Premier, respectively. My guess is that the appropriate one is copied to location 1) during initial installation or upgrade. 5) looks like the Vista equivalent of XP's C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\10898\SPLASH.BMP. This screen says "Quicken Personal Finances 2008" and in the upper left says "Connected to online services from CHASE". Other images in this directory are all associated with CHASE. I also have directories with numbers other than 10898, each associated with a different financial institution with which I do online banking. I don't recall having ever seen this splash screen.

Hope someone finds the above useful.
