Installing Q2009 ona new computer, using Q2006 on the old one...

If I want to do this, will I have any problems updating from banks and brokers? That is, if I download my transactions from Fidelity into Q2006, can I go and then re-download them on Q2009 on the new machine?

Loading thread data ...

If both machines are yours, you can buy 1 copy of Q2009 and install on at least 2 different machines as per the license (unless that changed very recently).

Then the problem becomes one of making sure that only one data set is used (apart from multiple backups, of course). Different data sets would be a nightmare to keep synchronized.

If you decide to keep different data sets, you're multiplying data entry, but are making a very good backup .

....

I don't actually enter (much) data into Quicken, since my banks and brokers seem to do a reasonable job of keeping up to date.

The reason I want to do this is that I've read many horror stories about people upgrading (or attempting to upgrade), and having all sorts of problems, eother with corrupted data, or not being able to roll back to a previous version, etc, etc.

So I figured this easiest thing for me to try, since I happen to have two machines at home, is to just start out completely fresh on the new machine with a "never before installed" version of Q2009. Then I'll copy my data over, and run them side-by-side for a couple of weeks. If there's no major problem, I might then upgrade the Q2006 box.

(Yeah, I know, maybe I could avoid this with backups and such. Heh..... I've worked with windows too long to trust that I could either (a) reliably have two versions of any program installed or (b) ever completely uninstall a version of a program.)
