Qkn06 & EmigrantDirect Transaction Downloads

I recently opened an online savings account at Emigrant Direct and I have successfully set it up as an online account in Quicken 2006. I also have a MM and checking account at another bank, which I update the transactions for using Quicken's "One-Step Update".

How do I add the Emigrant Direct account to One-Step Update so that its transactions are downlaoded to Quicken in the same way? (Note that my account password for the Emigrant Direct account is different from the password for my other bank's accounts.)

Also, if I can set this up via One Step Update, will it then be possible to transfer $$$ between my Emigrant Direct account and my other bank's linked checking account by merely entering it into Quicken and letting the transfer upload?

I'm trying to make the use of the EmigrantDirect account with the linked checking account as seamless as possible by letting Quicken handle the load. In other words, I would prefer not to have to log onto either bank's website to make a transfer between accounts.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Quicken doesn't care if you use the same password for every account.

The definitive starting point is your Participating Financial Institutions List; if your fi is not in the list, they offer no online services. If they are in the list, clicking on their name will tell you what online services they offer and what method(s) of download they offer.

According to my Q2006 Participating Financial Institutions List, Emmigrant Direct only offers Web Connect downloads; that is, you can not use One Step Update to download from Emmigrant Direct in Q2006.

[Q2007 has introduced a new feature called "Express Web Connect" which will permit Web Connect downloads using One Step Update ... but the feature is currently not working very well. I suspect it will be working better by the time the final release of Q2007 is out.]

In order to do this, the capability must be offerred by the financial institution; that is, you must be able to do it outside of Quicken before Quicken will be able to do it.

If the fi offers the capability, I am still not sure you can initiate it from within Quicken; I have no way to test it, but something in the back of my mind says, probably not. But I don't think there would normally be any harm in trying.

But, since your fi does not offer "Direct" downloads, the question is moot; you must have One Step Update access to transmit transactions "to" your financial institution.

I have an Emigrant Direct account and was able to set it up for Express Web Connect in QP2007 with the help of a couple members of this group. It would work fine, had Emigrant Direct not recently implemented a higher level of security. Even if you turn off the extra security questions, ED's web site still prompts for the answer to a rotating question which includes year or month of birth, or the last four digits of one's social security number. (This is in addition to the usual ID and password, of course.) It's this rotating question that botches EWC for Emigrant Direct. If Quicken's EWC was capable of prompting for this rotating question upon download, EWC would work fine IMNSHO. Still, I have no idea if this is something Intuit can fix in a future Quicken release, as each financial institution has their own weirdnesses.

Regards,

Margaret

Thanks to both of you for the prompt responses. Not being able to use

1-Step Udate for this account isn't a deal breaker for me, but it would have been nice. I guess that I should have researched online savings account compatibility with Quicken a bit more thoroughly before going with EmigrantDirect.

Oh well....

Thanks again!
