Quicken 2007 Revision 3 is ready - but won't install for me

Hi, Gang.When I did my regular One Step Update yesterday, I was notified of the"QUICKEN 2007 RELEASE 3 UPDATE - January 2007". I clicked Update Now, ofcourse, and the update downloaded to my computer, but when it tried to install, it bombed, complaining that there's not enough space on my hard drive. Says it needs 42 MB. But my Quicken volume - each and every one of my dozen or so volumes - has a GB or more free.In my archives I find posts in this NG from a few years ago, telling how to start the qwpatch.exe file manually to do the update. But that didn't work this time, either; it failed with the same error message.I'm running Quicken 2007 Basic on Windows Vista Ultimate x64 RTM.When I look at qwpatch.exe with Notepad, it's mostly unreadable code, of course, but there is a text area that lists a half-dozen or more Windows versions, from 3.1 to WinXP and Windows Server - but not Windows Vista. It looks to me like Intuit's programmers were asleep at the switch again. :>( I know Vista is not generally available, but it was released to businesses and volume buyers over a month ago, and Intuit should have expected that many of us would already be using it. There was no problem installing Q2005, Q2006 and Q2007 during the beta period, or installing Q2007 to Vista RTM a couple of times last month and getting Release 2.Oh, well. Q runs fine without the update, so maybe I'll just wait until the programmers wake up. Or maybe I'll try to email them and see if I can get their attention.Has anyone else tried to update to Revision 3 on a Vista system?RC

Just to close out this thread...

See my reply to the new thread you started today: Vista and Quicken, continued.

By running QWPATCH.exe from a Command Prompt window opened as Administrator, I was able to patch to Release R3. So I'm all up to date now.

For the record, you have conflated two users, formerprof and DP. I'm the latter. Not really important, but just thought you might want to know.

No biggie. BTW, looks like I may get q07 basic for free when I go buy turbotax, so I may try that as my default install on Vista once Vista comes out in a couple of weeks. Right now I'm using RC1 of Vista Ultimate. As an XPx64 user I can buy the upgrade edition of Vista but will have to do a clean install. So once I do that, I'll be Vista all the way instead of dual-booting as I am now. So I'll use that opportunity to install 07.

Encountered this yesterday, both when attempting to install commercial software (ours) from CD and also when attempting to run an application that doesn't require installation: always the same message, a directory name and "The directory name is invalid". So I took the message literally and moved the .exe into a directory under "Program Files" and it ran happily. Then copied the entire contents of my installation CD into a directory under "Program Files" and that was able to install. So an easy fix, but does anybody know what's going on here? Our two best theories are (A) the application needs an accompanying manifest file or (B) there is a Windows policy setting "Only Run Executables
