Quicken 2007 on Windows Vista

I just upgraded to windows vista home premium with clean isntallation. After I reinstalled Quicken, I notices that Quicken 2007 was not installed propertly. I tried uninstallation the program but but it failed. It went through uninstallation process but the Quicken 2007 still shows in the program list. When I try to reinstall the program it gives me menu with repair or modification but does not let me reinstall the program. How do I do clean removal and reinstallation of Quicken 2007 in Vista? Thanks.

Hi, Ehsan.

HOW did you try to uninstall Quicken? In Vista, click Start | Control Panel | Programs and Features, highlight Quicken 2007 and click Uninstall.

That should get rid of the old Quicken, but if it doesn't, all is not lost.

Just find the qw.exe file and delete it. (Better yet, just change the name; how about qwbak.exx? Any name that Quicken Setup won't recognize as Quicken's executable file.)

Then run Quicken Setup again.

HOW was it improper? Maybe that doesn't matter. The re-installation SHOULD cure any defect. It probably will use any leftovers from the prior install/uninstall, such as the desktop icon.

Have you tried the Repair operation? Maybe that will work and is all you need.

If this doesn't work, when you post back, please tell us, step by step, exactly HOW you are trying to uninstall and reinstall, and what results you see, including - verbatim - any error messages.

I'd recommend going to Intuit's site and running through their menus to the Support section. Then doing a search for Vista. Here's something from there that appears to meet your needs. But, you'll need to confirm it:

"Unable to open, install, or uninstall Quicken on Microsoft Windows Vista Answer

To resolve this issue:

  1. Download and install the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility from the Microsoft support site. 2. To run the Windows Install Clean Up Utility, click the Windows Start button and select All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up. 3. From the list of installed products select each version of Quicken installed and click Remove. After removing all versions, click Exit. 4. Delete the Quicken shared folder: 1. Click the Start button and select Computer. 2. From the top menu bar, click on Organize, and select Folder and Search options. 3. Select the View tab. 4. In the section labeled Hidden Files and Folders select Show hidden files and folders. 5. Click OK. 6. Double-click Local Disk (C:). 7. Double-click ProgramData. 8. Double-click Intuit. 9. Right-click on Quicken and select Delete. When asked if you are sure you want to move this folder to the recycle bin, click on Yes. 10. Restart your computer. 5. Insert your Quicken CD-ROM. If you are prompted to install Quicken, click No or Cancel. 6. Click the Start button and select Computer. 7. Right-click the CD-ROM drive that contains the Quicken program CD and select Explore. 8. Right-click the install.exe file and select Run as Administrator. (If you are using a downloaded version of Quicken, locate the Quicken download file and right-click this file, and select Run as Administrator) If you receive a warning about unauthorized access, click Allow. 9. If you are prompted for your Administrator password, enter the password. If you did not establish an Administrator password when you installed Windows Vista, click Continue. 10. Follow the on-screen prompts to install Quicken. 11. When prompted to update the program during the installation process, click Update Now to install the latest updates.

Important Note: If the installation appears to stall, do not cancel the installation or End Task using the Windows Task Manager. Installation may take up to 2 hours to complete depending on the amount of RAM installed and other system configuration settings."

Question: Will Quicken Run on Window Vista? Quicken 2007 runs on Windows Vista, and while both Quicken 2006 and 2005 run on Vista both versions have some issues. Answer: Quicken Support reports that Quicken 2007 has successfully passed testing on Windows Vista, and no issues exist as long as you are running the most current Quicken release. Quicken 2006 and 2005 were tested on Windows Vista, resulting in the following problems:

An error message appears when accessing Quicken Home Inventory Help and currently, there is no solution for this issue. If you choose to run Quicken

2005 or 2006 on Vista you will have to live with this unless it is corrected in a later update.
