Release R 3 for Quicken 2009 is available

Hi, Gang.

This morning's One Step Update offered my "Free Update" to Release R 3 - so I accepted, of course. Download and installation were smooth in Vista Ultimate x64 SP2 beta. (I'll try it in the Win7 alpha OS later and let you know if there are any hangups there.) At the end, instead of clicking on Run Quicken, I exited and then clicked on my Quick Launch icon and now Help | About Quicken says: Quicken 2009 Deluxe Release R 3.

I haven't spotted any differences yet, but then I haven't really looked for them. I'm just entering today's activity, as usual.

You might be interested to know that one of the problems R3 is intended to correct is one where transactions are downloaded but are not available to Accept ... when the Quicken account was "open" during the download.

Hi, John.

Yes, that's VERY interesting since, as I reported here, I had that problem just a couple of days ago.

Thanks for that tip.

RC:

R3 patch failed twice on my Q2009 H&B, Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1. Had to do an un-install, re-install, and get R3 during the re-install.

Bob P.S. This is the first time that I can recall for a patch not working.

Yesterday after installing the R3 on my H&B09, my quicken did not start up as usual, took about 2 minutes with a blank screen before it started. Since then it has been starting as normal.

Hi RC - don't you click on the button that offers information on what the download is about to do (to you?) before you accept it? This was one of the items listed.

Hi, Andrew.

You got me! I SHOULD read the list of fixes, of course, but sometimes I'm in too big a hurry.

But, as I recall, the "free update" notice in OSU didn't offer an explanation. Did I just overlook it?

Hi, Bob.

I had similar problems a year or two ago but all recent updates have worked smoothly. At one point, during the Vista beta, as I recall, I had to take some extreme measures to get the update installed. John Pollard explains sometimes how to download the patch file and install it "manually".

Fortunately, my very recent uninstall-reinstall of Q2009 on Vista was very little hassle and took less than 10 minutes - including locating the Quicken CD.

Hi RC,

I got the release notes. Usually not very helpful, but they were there.

Yeah, the button and notes were there. The particular item that John had pointed out was there. Most of the time I read them and don't find any of them particularly applicable to my use of Q in that I never 'noticed' any of the reported problems being fixed. But I suppose I might have been unaware. Sometimes they do provide additional functionality. At any rate, it's interesting sometimes simply to read what they're fixing in their own right.
