Q11 Deluxe vs Premiere

I currently use quicken deluxe 2010 and I have a question regarding going up to premiere. In deluxe, I have an investment tab where I can see how my

401k with it's various funds and my other mutual funds are doing. It has to be manually updated. I don't do much else like buy/sell on the market, have capital gains/losses, etc, yet. Is there any real advantage for me for going to the premiere at this stage? I see on the comparison chart, it has "Investment performance dashboard shows your returns over time and how you are doing against the market" and "Continuously updates investment quotes to help ensure the value of your portfolio is always up-to-date." I seem to have some version of this as a tab in deluxe, is it different and better in Premiere?

Thanks, getting ready to go to 2011.

Deluxe will download from an investment account if the account supports downloads, as do mine. And it continues to show basis information, at least in my downloaded accounts from Vanguard and my employer 401k.

I was also concerned about the investment account when I "upgraded" from 2008, but I can't see any difference in the treatment of my investment accounts.

Can you think of any reason to purchase Premier if one only wants to track account balances in investment accounts?

I am trying to decide whether I need Premier or if Deluxe will be sufficient. I have bank, credit card, PayPal and investment accounts-regular, Roth IRAs and 401K accounts at Charles Schwab.

Any thoughts?

I ended up getting Deluxe and it does my mutual funds and two 401k accounts just fine. Amazon $41 instant download to boot.

thanks. I guess I will get the Deluxe version this year. Amazon seems to be my best option too. Our local BJs has discontinued stocking major software programs.

Costco here is down to just Windows and Office on the main table, but they had a pallet of Quickbooks nearby. Still waiting for Quicken 2011 to show up.

BJs moved their software display to a small section near their computers. The old display now is stocked with Wii consoles and software. My guess is they are pushing the Wii for christmas this year. Certainly no shortage of them this year. The software they are stocking are the 9.95 single program type of games & utilities from some no-name brand. No Microsoft or Intuit software. It will be interesting to see if they stock the tax software this year like they have in the past.

I went to the Amazon site. They don't have the Deluxe CD version yet. Site says shipping in 2-5 weeks. I guess they are waiting for Intuit to ship them their supply. I guess I'll do the download version and save a few bucks. Not in any hurry to upgrade but $37 might be the lowest price we'll see for the program.

?Hi, Ron.

I stopped using the premium versions of Quicken and TurboTax years ago. My personal finances have simplified greatly since I retired from active practice as a public accountant, and as my more exotic investments (partnerships, trusts, etc.) were also retired. I cut back to the Basic versions of both - until the Basic version of Quicken disappeared in about

2007. For the past several years I've used Quicken Deluxe and TurboTax Basic, and they work quite well for me.

As I see it, Intuit can't afford to sell a crippled product. Their most-basic products must be fully capable of handling all aspects of MOST users' situations. The company can add "bells and whistles" to justify higher prices for their higher-priced versions, but these features consist mostly of editorial advice, added performance charts, and other things that do not interest ME - but maybe you need or want them. The only features that I see as clearly worth paying extra for are things like depreciation calculations and payroll taxes for small businesses, but most of us homeowners/investors/employees - and even retirees - don't need these.

Last week, Best Buy, Office Depot and Wal*Mart here in San Marcos were all holding the line on Quicken 2010 Deluxe at about $50; Sam's Club had it for $39.88. This week's ads show it for about $45 at Office Depot and $40 at Best Buy. Maybe it's time. ;^}

Amazon now says, "In stock on October 23, 2010."

Robert: I had to go to Costco customer service to get the item code, Quicken was not being put out onto the floor. Pay at the cashier, and pick up at the cage. Bob

That's good news. Thanks for the update. This morning it was saying 2-5 weeks. I like having the disk too. I get free shipping with Amazon Prime so it is cheaper on Amazon than any other place online.

Thanks RC. I thought that might be the case. I don't need the bells and whistles. Just ordered 2011 Deluxe from Amazon. Free shipping - $39.99 - that works for me.

Any reason why you would buy 2010 now that 2011 is out. 2011 is cheaper than 2010 right now.

?Hi, Laura.

'Scuse me! ;>(

That's 2011, of course, not 2010! :>(

Best Buy's weekly circular in last Sunday's newspaper says Quicken Deluxe

2011 is $39.99. That's "Reg. Price $59.99; Save $20; $39.99 After Savings".

Thanks for catching my error about the year.

But once you download, you can burn your own cd.

For all of $2, I'm not sure it is worth the hassle of having to burn it to a disk.

Downloads sometimes do not include other software that a user might need (but doesn't know about when making the initial purchase). If that need arises, the user will have to search Intuit's site, and hope they can find that software available for downloading.
