Quicken Starter vs. Deluxe (and Premier)

I need to update my Quicken this year, and am womdering which version to get.

According to the comparison chart at

formatting link
, Premier is requiredin order to "Monitor your investments." Another poster said that Deluxe is enough to download stock quotes. Does it also download from investment accounts?

Does Starter do these things? What's missing in Starter?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Starter is like a bicycle with training wheels, Deluxe will handle all investment needs (10 speed bike), Premium has more planning tools (racing bike). I downgraded from Premium this year to Deluxe and do not miss any of the added bells and whistles that I never used in Premium.

And I went in the other direction--from Deluxe to Premium--this year. As far as I'm concerned, it tuned out to be a waste of the extra dollars Premium cost. On the other hand, the difference in price wasn't terribly great and it didn't hurt me badly.

And "Starter" will not convert from any other version except a "Starter" version (if that) ... so it's not even an option here.

John, thanks for that helpful piece of information.

This week at Staples I can get Turbo Tax Deluxe with State, Quicken Deluxe, and Norton Internet Security 2009 for 3 machines, for a total of $100, after several mail-in and one Staples on-line rebate. There might be better later on, but that one is good enough for me.
