Quicken 2011 is HERE!

I picked up a copy at lunch today from Costco. $39 if you are tracking these things. Of course, TODAY I left my USB drive with my Quicken file at home. Darn.

Wow! Amazon says it won't be released till Oct. 10. I have a pre-order for QP2011 for $69.99. It looks like Staples has it for an extra $20 right now.

Did Costco have the premier version? I don't have a Costco membership or one close by, but a friend does.

Or perhaps I'll just have to wait for Amazon to get it to me. :-( Last year Staples had some fantastic rebate deal, so I got it for a terrific price. Looks like no special deal at Staples right now, though.

Thanks for posting the news, Mr. Jan!

Margaret

Oh, the HORROR, the HORROR if one doesn't have the LATEST version of software. I'd be MUCH more concerned about not having the LATEST version of antivirus, antispyware software, IF I were you...

THAT type of attitude is exactly why consumer debt is now totaling in the TRILLIONS. People BUY something, NOT because they NEED it, but often because of boredom or simply to fill that "hole" in their gut. I could easily afford to go out and buy THOUSANDS of copies of the newest Quicken but I choose NOT to. I, for one, was taught the true value of a buck. It's called FRUGALITY. Look it up in a dictionary. That's why I was able to retire from full-time employment at 42. But, hey, if one wants to be a member of the "rat race", into their 90's, go for it!

No, the consumer debt is what it is because people buy without being able to afford.

Time to pull your head out, don't you think?

Can someone remind me of what the difference is between Quicken Deluxe and Quicken Premier? Does Deluxe download stock prices and keep track of your investment holdings?

That's it, Sharx35, cure our nation's economic problems single-handedly by never spending a penny. Didn't you ever hear "you can't take it with you?" Maybe if you treated yourself once in a while, you wouldn't be such a curmudgeon. And BTW, I retired at 42 as well, simply by practicing basic fiscal responsibility, not by depriving myself.

Oh, and don't worry about my computers catching any of those viruses yours might spew, as I keep them behind a small fortress: Eset NOD32, SuperAntiSpyware, Spyware Blaster.... And of course I have a router/firewall running DD-WRT that protects my LAN and wLAN (GbE/CAT6 and WPA2-PSK). Backup and disaster recovery are handled as well, by several devices (both on- and off-site) including a well-secured NAS. If you weren't so busy preaching instead of listening, you'd recall I spent 20+ years working in computer networking and security.

I think Sharx likes it there. ;-)

Yes, Deluxe tracks investments just fine. Premier offers some mutual fund ratings, and a bunch of other features that I never missed when I downgraded.

Thanks very much. That's what I thought, but wasn't sure I remembered correctly.

?Hi, Ken.

I agree with Jim H. Quicken Deluxe, the lowest level they sell now except for the Starter Edition, has ALL the functionality that we need. Higher versions simply add bells and whistles that I don't need - and you probably don't, either. The Home & Business version adds some depreciation and payroll tax functions, as I recall; these could be very important to a small business, but are not important at all to me nowadays - or to you, probably. Before Intuit discontinued it (in 2007?), the Basic version was all I needed.

To answer your specific question: Yes, Quicken 2010 Deluxe downloads my stock prices daily, and handles online bill paying and other banking functions, too. ;

Now in a week or so, we'll hear the griping because Intuit CHANGED something and this is unacceptable!!!!

All you guys on the bleeding edge make my life easier when I don't have those catastrophic screw-ups Intuit is so famous for.

By all means, please debug 2011 for me and let's let the griping begin!

Resolving those "newest headaches" is one of my favorite things to do! BTW, Amazon seems to be shipping orders earlier than anticipated, as my copy of Q2011 is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Yippee doodles!!! :-)

?Hi, John.

No. About a third of us will do that. Another third will gripe that there weren't enough changes to justify a new version, and that Intuit is just gouging us to make an obscene profit.

The rest of us will just take another step up the learning curve, contributing about as much to Intuit as if they were charging us for an annual subscription to keep the program up to date.

I'm ready to gripe about that now, and I haven't even seen the new version yet.

As far as I'm concerned, Intuit ran out of real improvements several years ago. New versions have differences mostly just for the sake of being different, so they have something new to sell.

I used to say that, for that reason, I got the new version only every other year or so. But I think I haven't recently really been doing what I say. Because it's not very expensive, I usually get the new one each year in the hope that there are at least a couple of significant improvements. But I'm almost always wrong.

So I'll probably buy it again this year, and prove myself wrong one more time.
