Quicken and Vista 64

Hi - also in the UK and using 64bit Vista- 2000 deluxe will not work! That is what I had been using as well before getting a new computer.

I am now running 2008 home and business quite happily (after solving printing problems with the help of John Pollard in this group). It seems that some people with 64 bit windows have problems printing, and some don't. In my case every other piece of software printed OK, but not Quicken 2008. Which convinced me it must be Quicken's fault. But John pointed me to "the truth" and the solution. The workaround is that you have to install Quicken off the root directory (i.e. C:\Quicken, not C:\Program files\Quicken.

I'm afraid you will find though that converting Quicken 2000 UK files is a nightmare that I gave up on. I just started afresh.

You also have to realise that new versions of Quicken are not geared for the UK. You have to go inside and set it to use international currencies, and then select UK for the accounts. But then it works - or at least it does so in the way that I use it.

An alternative route that I used for a while was to use Microsoft's free Virtual PC 2007 to install a virtual Windows XP environment onto my new computer, and I was able to install Quicken 2000 into that and use it quite happily. You could also set up a dual-boot arrangement to have XP on your computer, but the Virtual PC option is much simpler. Although I now use 2008 Quicken directly within Vista, at least I can access my archive files from the virtual set up.

I don't come to this group very often, but will try to watch more closely for a few days in case you want to ask more.
