Quicken Inhancement Requests

In the not too distant future, there may be no bank you can switch to that will be able to guarantee that you get your originals back. Check 21 makes it possible for any fi in the chain of fi's that process checks to replace your original with an "image" and to destroy the original. (That image will have all the legal characteristics of an original ... as does today's image, I believe).

Of course, I agree. The issue I had with BankOne was a while back. I hope the point I was trying to make wasn't lost with my bad example.

At one time there was a product called Paperport that allowed for documents to be stored with transactions (or linked - not certain) within Quicken. Quicken, my understanding dropped support of this several releases ago. My guess this was not to popular of a feature at that time.

I can get PDF's of checks at my Credit Union for up to 90 days. However, I hardly write any checks anymore between Debit Cards, ACH and EFT's. Perhaps 1 check every 4 to 6 months.

John, I don't think so. The 'substitute check' (amazingly, this is a formal technical term!) is a specially created copy introduced in Check 21. One of the FAQs I subscribe to has the following explanation: "Different kinds of copies of a check will have different rights attached. Check 21 creates a new kind of paper copy of an electronic image of a check. This special kind of copy is called a "substitute check." Only a substitute check can be the legal equivalent of the original check, and only a substitute check triggers your right to recredit of disputed funds. A regular copy of a check does not carry these same protections. If you ask for a copy of a check, your bank may send you an ordinary copy instead of this special kind of copy which triggers legal rights and protections unless you ask for a substitute check.".

My FI [a credit union] has had this capability as a standard feature for more than 3 years.
