I did not realize you could not use 2008 with the older version's files. So, I uninstalled 2008. When I tried to install the older version, I received an error message that I need to edit my config.sys file. I used the old DOS command edit c:\config.sys and get a blank file. I used the sysedit command and indeed see the config.sys and autoexec.bat are blank files. I went ahead and entered the parameters buffers=0 and files on separate lines, saved, rebooted - didn't make a difference for installation of software. Anyone able to assist? Martha

How old is your Windows?! Config.sys hasn't been a part of Windows since at least Win95. Well, it is still included in most versions, but only as a compatibility feature for old applications that insist on it - and Quicken hasn't needed it in many years.
What is your Windows version? And which version of Quicken created the data files you are trying to use in Quicken 2008?

But you can! Assuming your older Q files are not THAT old, an upleveled Q (like Q2008) can read the older (Q2007, Q2006, etc.(but perhaps there's a limit as to how far back it will go)) files; true, it does an 'upgrade' of those older files to the current year's format, but it certainly does handle that automatically.
If you think about it, it has to! How else could we all upgrade?
What was the older year's Quicken version?
