Something changed the starting balance of an account

The sequence was:



Install 2011 over 2008. Convert may quicken DB. Do several one step updates to a Capital One credit card account. Install R3 update to 2011. More updates. Reconcile.



Reconcile showed a cleared balance discrepency, which I eventually tracked down to the starting balance of the account being positive rather than zero.



I subsequently reconverted the 2008 DB and did an update. The starting balance is correct.



I do not know when the error occurred. I'm really not asking for help, just reporting this in case others see it, or know about it.



Nothing in the release notes indicates this sort of bug.

I had a very similar experience with opening balances of credit card accounts changing on me after OSU's, though the situation had nothing to do with moving from one version of Quicken to another.

If you look closely I'll bet you find that the positive opening balance amount is equal to a downloaded transaction or some combination of downloaded transactions.

At a guess, it has more to do with problems with OSU than the version change. By any chance with this Capital One account a credit card you hadn't used for a while?

Yes, I had noticed that the opening balance was exactly the sum of the last two transactions in the register.

I also noticed that the online balance was larger - it included yet another transaction which had not been downloaded. Have no idea if this is relevant.

As for activity, this account was inactive in the past but has had monthly activity for the past six months.

I suspect the upgrade may be relevant only in that this may be a new bug not present in 2008.
