Since my 2011 Quicken expires, for downloading purposes, on 31 May, I recently ordered, via Amazon, a 2014 CD. I could have bought the download, alone, from Intuit directly for $2.10 CAN cheaper, however I prefer to have the software safe on a CD for re-install purposes.
It installed without any apparent problems. However, when I tried to "Update", it crashed Quicken each and every time. I hunted around on the net and found advice suggesting that I make sure that I have the most current version. The shipped CD was the first version of Canadian variant. After much hunting around, I discovered a download file for Revision 2 for the Canadian Quicken. Once I downloaded that and installed it, further updates of prices, etc., worked just fine. The help site had given a long list of terrible reasons that might have caused my problem, I.e. corrupt windows, NET 4.0, etc.
All my accounts checked out, however one investment account showed a balance about $1600 CAN higher than the 2011 Quicken. I compared the data to the on-line data at my broker's and, guess what? Quicken 2014 was correct--for some reason Quicken 2011 had been temporarily misccalculating...starting some time after April 30.
Quicken 2014 SHOULD have been coded to NOT crash on an UPDATE attempt but to at least put out a prompt/link for an updated version check. There was no mention of any of this on the paper materials accompanying the CD. Only my 20 years using Quicken and the many years on this newsgroup saved my pasty white butt.
