Transaction question

I have 2007 quicken home....

I can't figure out how i do this.

One line item in income is called anniversary. Anniversary paid for 41 dollars of hats.

There was "no official" exchange of money... except I as the treasurer could have written a check for the hats.. But i would prefer not writing a check..

How do i enter that so it looks like that?

Janice,

Let's start at the beginning. What happened in the REAL world? How were the hats paid for? And why would you be using an income category to record what appears to be an expense?

oops i have income that can pay for the hats i have an expense item for anniversary activities.. it would be expensed as an anniverary activity

If i wrote a check for it from the funds i have i would enter the category as anniversary activity.

Janice - So how DID you obtain the hats if you didn't pay for them? As Dan said, ROT: best way in Quicken is to always mimic the real world!

Do you have a Quicken 'asset' account that has the values of the particular assets 'owned' by the committees? This would perhaps be different from any actual bank or checking accounts that deal in inflows and outflows of dollars. You could theoretically exclude these asset accounts from any types of cash flow reporting. If so, you can then just do a transfer from one of the asset accounts to the other using the account name as the category. Just a thought....see my next paragraph.

But it really seems like you're trying to manage inventory within Quicken which isn't exactly it's cup of tea. Quickbooks might be a better option, but I don't know much about that despite having it for 3 months...haven't used it yet.
