Quicken Deluxe 2009 Freezes when doing various operations

I am running Quicken Deluxe 2009 revision 5 on Windows XP. The program freezes when I do different things with it like reconcile an account, enter interest information or enter deposits or checks. Never at the same point and not at the same time it has been opened. You have to CTRL-ALT-DELETE to close the program and then reboot to get the computer to reset itself. It is not enough to close the program.

I did verify and super verify the data with no problems. I did use QCleanUI tool to remove all quicken references and install a clean copy.

NOTES: I do have data from 1966 to 2009 in one file. Could that be the problem. It has been suggested that I should set up copies of the data using 5 year intervals and checking the two boxes at the bottom of the copy screen: Check box to keep all prior uncleared transactions and check the box to include all prior investment transactions. Would having a data file so large cause the program to freeze?

If not, what can be the cause?

Loading thread data ...

Hah.. I wouldn't have guessed it. Thanks for sharing that. I'm into photography as well, but I can't say that I am good at it though.

I haven't figured out a pattern yet. My data file is 24MB and has data going back to 2000. It seems like it can happen doing a simple operation after first loading, and it seems like Q09 can do lots of complex things and keep running for a long time. What is interesting though is when it happens, it happens more than once. I can't say it's related to rebooting Windows or not, but I'm starting to wonder if it might be. When it does happen it doesn't crash, it just hangs. Most of Q09 goes white but parts of the display are still there. I'm not sure about this, but I believe it happens when I have a lot of other applications open including memory hogs like Photoshop. My machine has 1GB of RAM and was built just as XP came out. I'm still running the original installation from the first week XP was around to put a date on how old this is.

I will take better notes the next time this happens.

I wasn't clear. When it hangs, it hangs indefinitely and never recovers.

You might be in the wrong thread. This thread describes Q "freezing"; the other one describes Q "disappearing".

Which Q are you using?
