TTax won't get Quicken data

Mar 27, 2005 8 Replies

My TurboTax 2004 does not appear to be importing the stock dividend data from Quicken 2005. I've gone thru the import steps to import from financial software, and after it finishes the import, the investment income summary does not reflect the income from dividends. I've used this step during the Income stage of TTax. Any help?

Quicken changed the import feature in TT2004. It will ask you at several steps during the interview to import from Quicken. TT only imports the data it needs at each point. Have you reached the point where you are entering dividends? TT should ask you import again.

As far as I know I am at the proper point. It has imported the interest data from that investment account but has skipped the dividend data... both of them in the category of Income.

What happens if you run QW's Tax Summary and/or Tax Schedule reports - do the dividends show up here properly?

If they don't, check the tax attribute assignment for the dividend category - should be 'Schedule B:Dividend income'

They show up on the Tax Summary report but on the Tax Schedule report they are missing.

Sounds like the problem is within QW then.

Are you using the dividend category supplied by QW - the '_DivInc'?

Yes.

Also, I just updated to the latest patches and it did not help.

I re-read your previous suggestions and I believe I've got it fixed. I looked at the category list, and although the _DivInc was checked as a tax category, the area where it was supposed to go was missing. I chose Schedule B, and re-ran the report. It now shows up in the schedule report. I think it will also work in the import into TT.

Thanks for your help. I wonder why this was not set up this way initially?

I'm fresh out of ideas right now - but judging by the inconsistent reporting, I believe it is something within QW as opposed to an interface problem between QW & TTax.

I have experienced some unusual behavior in reports using categories that I have created - for such things as OID Interest and qualified dividends - but have not had any problems with QW's categories.

Is this one security or several involved? - one account or more?

The fact that they show in the Tax Summary Report would indicate that the tax sched info for the individual securities and the accounts is correct - but wouldn't hurt to double check these.
