Turbotax won't recognize extension payment

Hi Folks,

I have TurboTax 2006 Home & Business. I sumbitted an extension of time to file, but not using turbotax. I'm now having a hard time getting TurboTax to recognize that I paid through the extension already. I try manually entering the amount on line 69 of the 1040 form, but TurboTax gives me an error saying that I have to file form

4868 (which I already did, just not through turbotax). How do I trick the program into recognizing that I've already paid?

thanks, allie

Hi, Allie.

I used TurboTax 2006 Basic to file my return - on time, so there was no extension. But when I go back to test for your problem, TT happily lets me enter an amount on Line 69. But then the Final Review says I have an error that I must fix. Or I can click in the box for Line 69 and enter that amount in the supporting form; there's a line for it. Then the Final Review is happy.

Allie:

Just go to Form 4868, on line 7 enter the amount you sent in with your extension, check the box to freeze Form 4868, and TurboTax will inocorporate that amount into your 1040.

Thanks R.C. and Bob,

I didn't realize I had to "freeze" the form. I checked the box, and I no longer get an error in Review. Thanks a ton for your help.

Best, Allie
