Unable to download transactions from Vanguard Group

The Vanguard Group is one of 6 financial institutions which I periodically download transactions in Quicken 2010 via the One Step Update. Fore the past 2 days, I have been getting an error message "Your financial institution has rejected your request {OL-301-A}. Additional information from Vanguard Group"

I have never had this trouble before. I checked the user ID and password and they are correct. I am able to get onto the Vanguard site with these codes and also am able to get onto the site with my smart phone.

Anyone have a similar problem? Any suggestions what to do to correct the situation?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I downloaded Vanguard with no problem.

If it were me, I'd wait a few more days, then if I still had the problem, I'd disable online updates for the account, then re-enable them and try it again. That has worked for me in the past.

re/"..., I'd wait a few more days,..."; why wait? Why not try that right away? No downside.

I've had download failures many times over the years. Usually, they clear up in a few days without doing anything.

If there are communication issues at either end, then re-enabling the downloads may not be successful. For many users that can cause consternation.

Advising strangers to make changes to their software configuration can sometimes have undesirable effects.

There were three engineers in a car. It wouldn't run. The first, a chemical engineer said that it must be a fuel chemistry problem, and they should replace the fuel. The second, an electrical engineer suggested that it was an electrical problem, and they should analyze the electrical system to determine the problem. The last, a Microsoft software engineer suggested closing the windows, exiting the car, getting back in and seeing if it would work. :-) It sometimes does.

OK - seems like your reasoning is thought out and I can accept that. I will add that many times over the decades I've used Q I've had various connection issues and although I'm not saying it's always fixed problems, I've never had a problem in disabling and reenabling an online account. Often that did work, and far from having "undesirable effects", it often worked. And I'd give that advise to my brother, so giving to a stranger in and of itself is also not a problem for me to offer.

But again, to each their own and I've got to quibble.

Geez, what a difference a letter means! I meant to say "I've got NO quibble" with your argument. Sorry.

weird - it was all ok for me when you posted, but now today - Sunday morning 5/22 - the Vanguard download failed -

Yea, mine failed this morning also. I suspect the servers are down for maintenance. Sunday is always a popular day for that.

ahh - it appears - from another thread on the Quicken Forum, that Vanguard messed up on their SSL Cert - on 5/20/11 - try and connect to - vesnc.vanguard.com

------

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to vesnc.vanguard.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified...

Technical Details

vesnc.vanguard.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is only valid for vesncp.vanguard.com

(Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)

I just called Vanguard. They fellow that answered put me on hold for a minute while he talked to a tech support guy. Result: No problem here! He suggested that I call Intuit and ask them to look into the problem. Of course I checked that I can login to their web site, but I think OSU gets in through some other path. I think we just need to wait. Maybe a few more calls to Vanguard will help, but I'm not going to spend my time debugging their problem.

------------

It's a Vanguard technical problem....

Just have them browse to the URL -

formatting link

1 - the SSL certificate is wrong - it's for another URL, or a typo - 2 - if the "vensc." URL is wrong, then the other "venscp." URL is not found
formatting link
SO.... take your pick -

I can't see the SSL cert in my browsers, since it is not valid. Wonder if there is another way to view SSL certificate details to determine when it was established / created / renewed ? Guessing around 5/20/11 -
