Uncatorgorized Income

Early this year I sold mutual fund shares in investment co. A & transferred cash to investment co. B; I then bought mf shares w/this cash in co. B. My budget report shows the purchased shares as uncategorized income? This gives me income I wish I had, but it is not income so don't understand the concept. Using qkn 05p r3. I can eliminate this category from the report but hate to do this as occasionally do see an income event that should be categorized & wasn't. Any idea of what is happening & how to fix? dj

I have Quicken 2005 Deluxe and it doesn't do that. Instead, if I transfer cash into my mutal fund account and then buy shares, it shows it on the expense report as an uncategorized expense of zero. It doesn't show at all in the budget report. I have noticed if I use the buy and transfer choice ie. select the option use cash from another acount instead of from the mutual fund account, it doesn't happen. You can try that.

Also, the exclusion of uncategorized transactions from the budget report won't effect other reports. You can create a special uncategorized report to check for mistakes. That's what I do as I have a lot of these zero amount transactions and I don't want them in my expense reports.

Perhaps there is file corruption -- but my budget report shows +$10,000 income there is no corresponding expense. As stated this is cash transferred from another fi following the sale of mutual funds. The cash transfer did not show as income just the "bought" shares. Have used qkn since v5 & MYM for 8 years prior to that & have never seen such a screwy idea of income. dj
