Merging files in Quicken 2005

I am trying to merge data files together in Quicken 2005. I read somewhere on the internet that this was no longer available through import/export. I also read that to get around this I could copy multiple transactions from one account in one file to another account in another file. I tried this but can't get it to work.

I highlighted the transactions and selected copy transactions. I then opened the file that I want them to go into. I had already set up a new account in this file and I selected the check register within it. I selected a blank check register line and then tried to select "paste transactions" but it was gray (dim) and would not let me. I have tried several times and do not know what I might be doing wrong. Is this the wrong method or am I going about it incorrectly?

Thanks,

Based on some new information, it may be possible to merge two files using QIF import/Export, even in Q2005. Try this, but I'd suggest you try it on a copy of your files before doing it for real. Also not that I have only gleaned the information from a mention by an Intuit development manager - I don't have Quicken 2005 and cannot try it.

Go to the file you want to export the accounts from and choose Export -> QIF. Select (this is the crucial part.

Now go to the file you want to import from and select import -> QIF, again, select (you may have to scroll the selection list *up* to see the option.

Let us know whether it worked, the whole world wants to know. :)

Cool. You owe me a Tootsie roll. :)

In all seriousness, thanks for testing it. Much appreciated.
