What is Web Connect?

I've been a Q98 & Q2001 user and just upgraded to Q2005.

When I start Quicken it always prompts me with Quicken is not currently the application configured for handling Web Connect data.

What is "Web Connect data" and what does Quicken do if I make it the default application? Does it change some Windows file association?

Secondarily... When I do a One-Step Update and update information from, say, Fidelity, does the request (and response) go directly to Fidelity or does it go through Inituit's server?

Web connect is when you download a file with the .QFX extension and imports it into Quicken. Since Quicken is the only appliacion that understands QFX files, I can't see where the harm can come from to let Quicken update your file associations and make it happy.

Some of the initial message traffic goes to Intuit's servers, but your financial data is transferred directly between your FI and your PC.

Thanks... I clicked on the "Download Transactions" button for my Citi Credit card and it opened up the CitiCard webpage, logged in and downloaded my transactions. Cool!

But... When I tried it with my checking account, clicking on the "Download Transactions" button, it couldn't find it. However when I clicked on the "Web site" link to the right of that button, it opened a webpage to the home page. Seems as though the button doesn't have the correct url. How does one get that corrected?

That's what I was hoping...
