My credit rating is very poor and I was wondeirng if I can get a Bank Account with a Debit Card other then Visa Electron?

Natwest "Step" account with a SOLO debit card. No cheque book with a/c but you've get a card.
For other cards (but no bank account) you can get a prepay Mastercard from

(you'll need ID and visit a local agent) or you could use:-

to get a prepay Maestro card (no ID require, apply online). Not aware of any prepay VISA cards in the UK though.

Is there any particular advantage of Solo over Electron? I thought they were essentially the same thing, ie a debit card that requires online authorisation, doesn't let you go overdrawn and doesn't have cheque guarantee.
