Adding a second electrical socket

You're going to kick yourself, but you should be aware that this isn't uk.diy.

But I suppose if you were thinking of getting an electrician to do the job, you'll want to know the best method of raising the funds to pay for the job.

No issues with replacing single with double, but you should only run to another socket if the original is part of a ring main - ie it has wires in and wires out which both untimately end up back at the fuse box. You will then be creating a spur off the ring main which is ok. What you don't want is a spur off a spur - ie a single wire to the socket already fitted, then a single wire out to your new socket.

Take care when cutting/enlarging the holes not to damage the cables behind. If you pay for the materials at B & Q/Homebase/etc with a credit card you will get a few weeks before you have to pay. If you go to a "trade" supplier and pay cash, you should get the stuff cheaper.

Oops, sorry all. I went to uk,diy this morning and was trying to figure out why this post was not appearing.

Then again, bearing in mind the poor financial advice given by various IFAs and banks in recent years maybe we should have a uk.diy.finance.

Alternatively, we could pool our resources and have a uk.finance.diy.

If you are a construction business, you need to make sure the electrician has the appropriate CIS certificate. Other than that, I can't think of anything.
