I was struck my the amount of ancient unclaimed pension funds there are when reading a BBC article on the ASW steelworkers pension deficit -
'"There are pension funds stretching back unbelievably 400 or 500 years that haven't been claimed. . . "Let's use that interest, which would be £2bn or £3bn a year, to pay for the deficits in ASW's pension fund."'
Why didn't the claimants get a better payout so that the fund remaining once all claimants were deceased was smaller ? Seems crazy to me. Nice work for those charging fees to manage it though !
