Bank account

Hi, I would like to open a bank account to seperate any money I make from ebay so I can keep track easier. Anyway the problem is I dont have a Passport of driving licence, so is there any where I can open an account. I have an exisiting one with HSBC which I opened years ago.

Any help will be appreciated

Daniel

As you already have an account with HSBC, why not just ask them to open a second account for you?

They do not need ID if you are known to them, I opened business accounts recently and they were ok as I had personal accounts

I don't think that's true, except in the strict sense of "known" which means they have previously seen your ID. If they are being lax as regards the MLRs, they risk getting a severe knuckle-rapping, as has happened to other banks.

In order to open his first a/c, they must have seen ID. The fact that the rules are tighter now will not affect this, he is a "known" entity to them. I opened my a/c in 1996 with approropriate ID at the time. They did not ask for more this time.

Not necessarily, not if it was long enough ago. I don't remember needing any ID when I opened my first account in the seventies.

Not enough. If the rules are tighter to the extent of requiring more ID than before, then being "known" isn't good enough. See below.

That's as it should be. If they have in the past seen ID which would now be acceptable for a new customer (and haven't lost their record of having seen it) that's fine.

But I suspect even so some banks are more lax than others and haven't had their fingers burnt yet. I don't remember requiring to show ID when I was a new customer some 30 years ago.

My mum has a BOS current account and also had a BOS savings account of the obsolete variety (risible interest rate) at the same branch. I suggested she should get it transformed into one of their less obsolete ones, giving a more respectable interest rate. They wouldn't do it without seeing ID (which they had no record of having seen).

I showed no ID when opening an account with my bank many years ago. A few months ago I opened a second account, and, as I would expect, they didn't ask for any ID.

Because they will still need ID.
