cheque express clearance

Nov 08, 2004 2 Replies

Hi there,

I paid in a cheque into my Halifax account on Friday, by express clearance (Cost me 12) I just checked my account and its not yet been paid.

Does anyone know if I will get the cash by 5pm or will it be tomorrow (Tuesday)?

Thanks.

It wont. Special clearance doesnt get you the money any quicker, it just lets you know if its paid. Once the drawee tells the Halifax that it is cleared, then the Halifax should let you draw against the cheque which whilst it has been paid, isnt yet cleared. Halifax wont actually get the dosh from the drawee for a couple of days.

You should be able to get it at 3.30pm.

On reflection, you are dealing with the Halifax, so absolutely anything might happen.

Even if they say that cheque WIL be paid you have to wait until end of clearing cycle before you can use the money. Express clearance does not let you draw the cash any earlier , ONLY tells you that a cheque will be paid.Did Halifax give you a leaflet explaining the process and its limitations? Eric
