DD change - how quick ?

How late can you leave changes before the debit date on direct debits ?

MBNA seem to want 20+ days notice. That may be their own crap procedures, but what about the banking system (BACS?).

Well, Egg can manage to process changes with 5 working days notice, so the notice required by the banking system can't be any more than that.

Smile reckon around 5 days .. the debitor seems to ask for the cash 5 days before it leaves your account, judging from what nPower told me when they screwed up my billings. 8>.

I've found some details - as far as BACS is concerned it's 3 (business?) days, so MBNA take 15 days to make the change.

"Process is completed in 3 days

Day 1 : INPUT - Receipt of Originators payment file at BACS Day 2 : PROCESS accepted data Day 3 : ENTRY COMPLETED with Beneficiary being credited and Originator debited simultaneously"
