Going next week, will I get a better rate of exchange at the arrival airport...

Probably. Not been to Egypt but IME any country with a minor currency gives much better rates over there than you'd get here. Probably better going to a bank over there rather than the airport (or just change as little as you need at the airport).

But usually better than exchanging cash is using an ATM - especially if you have a Nationwide account.

I would suggest getting around £100 worth of Egyptian pounds before you leave the UK. I seem to remember having to buy a visa last time I arrived in Cairo, you had to buy it airside and they only took their own currency or US$. There was a little money change place, but the rates their were bordering on the silly.

Its also useful to have some local money, especially if things like flight delays mean you have unexpected expenses on arrival. Plenty of opportunity to exchange money reasonably once you are in the city.
