Exporting more than 1 CD to Hindustan

I sell the occasional copy of my website on a CD. See

I have just receive a request from Hindustan Subscription Services for the possible supply of 100 copies. I have had no problems with Customs declarations in the past but how do I stand with a large quantity. Do I need an export license etc? I am completly out of my depth here. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also what does "payment: Through Advance remittance as per your Proforma to be supplied" mean?

Regards, Graham Knott.

It's not you that has to worry about customs declarations it's them. All you have to do is supply a copy (maybe 2 copies) of your commercial invoice to the carrier when you ship the goods.

A proforma is just a request for money to be sent in advance of the goods being shipped, usually it is worded exacly the same as the "Goods Invoice" except it's Headed "Proforma Invoice" . Your invoice should show the correct price of the goods and their description. I'd describe the CD as a "Data CD for Training in Electronics", in case the destination country has a luxury tax on music CD's.

Specify "Payment by Sterling Bankers Draft", otherwise you'll be back here before you know it asking how to clear a Hindustani Cheque. Other alternatives such as wire transfers may attract charges here in the UK.

BTW WRT your website I wouldn't accept *any* foreign cheques for a single £10 or a $15 transaction $15 is only Ca. 8 quid btw). That amount is about the minimum your bank would likely to charge you for clearing the cheque. OTOH banker's drafts denominated in Sterling are usually credited to your account without attracting charges and cleared immediately.

Your Hindustani customer appears to be a gentleman BTW.
