Person accidentally runs their car into their garage door of their house causing minor damage to paintwork on car and major damage to garage door.

The household insurers say nothing to do with us, claim on your car insurance. The car insurers say nothing to do with us, claim on your household insurance.

Sometimes one has to pay for ones own mistakes !

Was the car insurance fully comp ?

IANAL

The car did the damage, but if the car insurance had to pay out, they might still make a claim against the insureds' personal liability coverage in their household insurance. It still doesn't get them out of the fact the car did the damage.

I don't know but I presume it must be.

If it was your car, I'd pay for a new garage door and think of it as a lesson to be either more observant at best, or give up driving at worst - you're driving 1-2 tonnes of steel after all. If that was a person you accidentally rolled into, you'd be looking at more than a few flakes of paint and a dent.

If it's someone else's car, claim on their insurance.
