Removals Insurance

I'm about to move house. The question of Remoavls Insurance has come up and seems extremely complicated.

My household contents insurance does cover for removals, but not all the risks that it would cover at home, for instance 'fire' and 'theft' is excluded.

All risks insurance by the removal companies is very expensive - as much as I am paying per annum for the home contents, and is based, not on the value of the goods, but on the cost of the transport - which seems to me to be ludicrous. The risk is not in any way linked to the cost of the removals, but to the value of the goods and the time of exposure.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get reasonably priced removals insurance that cover the kind of risks that exist in a move. I'm less interested in minor damage to furniture than theft or fire damage to the whole load - nor do I particularly need new for old cover.

Thanks, R.

I've never understood why you need any. If the removals company damage or lose your goods after you have left them in their possession - then they are liable surely? It's a bit like a dry cleaning company asking you to pay insurance in case *they* lose/damage your suit.

Perhaps you could ask the removals company why their insurance is so high - does that reflect a high risk of them losing or damaging your goods? Why would you trust a removals company who admit to such a high risk?
