What does it cost to send a "standard" letter (within the 240mm x
165mm limit) if it weighs over 100 grams? The Royal Mail leaflets don't show any price in their PDF chart. Is this price really not available?

100g is the maximum weight limit for a standard letter.
If it's heavier than that you have to send it as a large letter (90p
1st Class, 76p 2nd Class). There's a price calculator elsewhere on that same web site.

Don't forget that they get you on both the size and the thickness. The kiddie birthday card which has an 'I am XX' badge takes you over the 5mm limit.

It just cost me £1.35 to send a £1.49 birthday card to my grandson in California.

Does having a lot of stamps left over from last Christmas count?

Yes. I had a few left, but they had all gone.
OTOH, I have made a huge loss on the 30p, 2p and 1p stamps I forgot about in an old wallet. 37p worth which I now have to find a use for. ;-)
