Santander charges

The wife's Alliance & Leicester account has now changed over fully to Santander and the first statement had a transaction........Weekly Statement Fee, Money Out 1.50.

She immediately transferred all the funds to another bank.....who don't charge.....and closed the account. So much for 1 day transfers, that was last Thursday and no sign of the funds into the other account yet.

Seems a bit steep. Is that just a weekly fee or did she have a weekly statement sent to her?

Not everyone has signed up to FPS yet or have put a cap on the amount that can be transferred by FPS.

Alliance & Leicester and Santander are signed up to FPS but A&L had a £250 cap and Santander £300 cap last time I looked. Transferring more than that OR if the receiving bank didn't cater for FPS then it would go the slow route.

Should appear in the account tomorrow (Tuesday) at a guess.

Both Abbey and A&L were pains to me and friends over the years and now they're Santander things don't seem to have changed. I can't think why people bother with Santander.

1.50 is the *monthly* fee for weekly statements from Santander - as it was from A&L

Might it have been a mistake arising from the transition from A&L to Santander IT systems? While such mistakes ought not to happen I think I'd have asked Santander about that before switching accounts if that was the only cause for discontent..

The Wife never had any charges or interest while with A&L so it may have been a clerical error. Anyway, it was time to move the funds somewhere for a change.....more PB's in fact.
