Small Euro Payments

Does anyone know of any economical way to make a small Euro payment to an account with known IBAN on a German bank? Does any system similar to BACS exist for such transfers? If so who offers affordable online access to it?

My bank with whom I have a current (sterling) account did this over the phone for me. They needed the IBAN no, the name of the payee, and a "swift" alphanumeric reference no. which mystified me a bit. I was quoted 6-7 days for the funds to be transfered (E140 ish) and they charged me £9 for the service.

I had the same problem last year when i needed to send a small deposit to secure holiday acc in Greece. In the end i just put the money in an envelope and sent it!. Of course you could also use airsure or something like that.

Not very cheap, but better than the £20 Citibank wants. Which bank?
