Programming interface for Crystal Reports

In a past life I used VB6 to do database reports and the like. I'm frustrated using Crystal Reports because there is stuff all over the place, and it is hard to get my arms around it. For example, when I make a field a selection field, there is no way to readily know that it is a selection field and nothing shows up in the Explorer windows. You have to go to the Selection Expert to find out what is going on.

So I was wondering if there is some way to use custom functions to provide an environment similar to VB where I can see all of the functions in a module? I get how to do a custom function for a specific purpose, but that isn't what I'm after. I really want to program this like a VB program so I can see everything in one file. Anyone done that and have any advice?

Another question I have if it is possible to programically change text in text objects? I have been through the help files and tried a few things, but so far it seems to be static text set only at design time. This would be handy to do a template and then the calling program would change the text as needed (or make it invisible). That is how I did reports in VB6, but I realize Crystal Reports is different.

Any help or useful comments appreciated.

I cannot help you with Crystal as my experience is limited, however you might want to check out PawCom at

as it provides a Com (Active-X)interface for Peachtree.
