Automation Error

I am getting the $%&$ing Automation Error again...It looks like something overwrote some MSDE stuff on my computer. The worst part - I know it was Microsoft. I installed Office 2007 with Business Contact Manager, and I knew I was in trouble when I saw it installing some SQL stuff with the Biz Contact manager CD... It was either that or the Windows Desktop Search 3.0 garbage (which, incidentally, Copernic Desktop Search still blows the doors off of).



So, not no matter what I uninstall and reinstall, I can't get RMS SO or HQ to work on this machine. I am severely irritated.



Lesson - use openOffice.org and teach MS a lesson for making incompatible software that overwrites critical files during installation. I know it's complicated stuff, but COME ON!

I totally agree. OpenOffice is a great product that is totally FREE! Craig

I just couldn't break myself away from Office yet. I do like some new features...

Anyway, I figured out that it is, in fact, Business Contact Manager that causes the problem. I reinstalled everything but this and it works. When I try to install it, everything goes haywire.

The solution (of course) is to install BCM first, then RMS, but you have to have ALL RMS products, including HQ, SO, and MSDE uninstalled FIRST. Then install office completely including BCM, and finally MSDE, then SO, then HQ. This seems to work.

This definitely took the fun away from my new Dell XPS 710, which, by the way, is fantastic. Highly recommended.

Yes. Repairing didn't do anything. If uninstall/reinstall doesn't work, I can't imagine how repairing would do any better...

In fact, subsequent to my last post, I messed up and did some changes to my Office 2007 installation using Add/Remove Programs in the control panel and it made RMS inoperable again. Had to go through the complete uninstall/reinstall procedure AGAIN!

Not fun.

Did you try a simple repair in Add/Remove Programs for both RMS SO and HQ first?
