Can someone please explain why my Lot Matrix won't work?

I buy a pallet of wax at 40 boxes or 2200 lbs. I sell it by the pallet or by the box, or by the slab. I have set up the matrix using 40 boxes 1 box and 1 slab. In this one I put the box as the child of the pallet with a quantity of

1 and the slab a child of the box with a quantity of 5 as there are 5 slabs per box. If I have 0 pallets and 16 boxes with and 5 slabs and sell 2 slabs it adds 16 to the pallet quantity? If I set it up with 200 slabs in pallet quantity and 5 in box quantity and 1 as slabs and parent child each the same as before and sell a slab it adds 3 pallets????Microsoft technicians helped me set up the second matrix and it still doesn't work.

Lot Matrix is not the same as Parent/Child - if you are using a lot matrix, you would always be selling 'slabs', and the lot matrix would allow you to name the various quantities and price them appropriately.

In Parent/Child, you sell a slab item or a box item or a pallet item - each has it's own SKU and it's own price information.

For a Parent/Child set up:\ Create the Pallet item Create the Box Item Create the Slab Item

For the Slab Item: Set the Parent Item to the Box Set the Child Quantity to 5

For the Box Item: Set the Parent Item to the Pallet Set the child quantity to 40

For the Pallet item: Don't set the Parent Item or Child Quantity

In this setup, you don't want to have a Lot Matrix - sell the 3 items directly.

If you sell a pallet, nothing special happens - it's a regular item...

If you sell 41 boxes, a pallet is 'broken' - the pallet qty goes down by 1 and the box qty goes up by 40 (leaving it at 39)

If you sell 6 Slabs, a Box is 'broken' - the box qty goes down by 1 and the slab qty goes up by 5 (leaving it at 4). The Pallet Qty will not be effected by a slab sale - It will only be updated when a box item is sold directly.

Thanks, that really helped alot, however, when we set it up like you explained, is the pallet quantity going to read zero when we sell all 40 cases, or can the pallet quantity go to zero once we have taken one out of the pallet. We only want the pallet quantity to say one when we have a full pallet, and not half a pallet or one short of a pallet. Example: we had one full pallet and 3 cases, so the quanities read : Pallet(40 cases) =1 and Case =3. So we sell 4 cases. will the pallet change to zero and the cases to 39?

yes it will, or at least it should if everything is working as expected.

You may have a problem with this scenario however:

1 pallet 1 case 3 slabs

sell 4 slabs

new quantities:

1 pallet 0 case 4 slabs

- the box got broken, but the pallet didn't - it won't break until the box item is sold directly.

Set up a sample database and try out some scenarios to see your results.
