Can't scan bar code generated from RMS

RMS v 1.3 Refresh Zebra LP 2824 Scanner: Metrologic MS3780 Fusion Bar code type 128A Item look up code: 12 numeric characters

The label wizard and the item properties window produces a label that will not scan.

I am using an ordinary product as my test. This product scans into a text editor, and when I scan the product, the item will come up in the register. I have configured the scanner to read 128A, set the item lookup code to be the 12 numeric characters from the product barcode, however, when the label is printed using these perameters in the Label Wizard or the items property window it will not scan into the register. In fact, the scanner does not sense the barcode label.

Also, I cannot scan the barcode off the register receipts.

Please help.

Can you clarify what 'scans into a text editor'? Are you saying that after printing a label from the label wizard that you can scan it in notepad, but that the scanner will not read it when in POS? Or are you talking about some other barcode that scans into notepad?

You need to set the transaction numbers to something that will produce a usable barcode - numbers like "3" are hard for scanners to read. IN SO Administrator, connect to the database, then use the "Database/Set Next Transaction Number" menu item to set the trans numbers to something like "10001". This should be readable...

I'm not familiar with the scanner model you mentioned, but if it is reading data directly into notepad, then you should not configure it in RMS Register Properties. Just go to the register properties and clear all of the settings on the Barcode Scanner Tab.

Thank you for the reply.

I changed the Transaction number in the database, and now the scanner is able to scan the cash register receipt.

After printing a label from the wizard. it will scan into notepad, but not in POS. All settings in the Database - Registers - Register List are clear.

I have set the barcode size 1.75x.75 inches. I have been trying to create a

Does the label not scan in POS at all, or is the item just not found? If it scans in notepad, it should also scan in POS - that does not mean that the item will be found though. If the scanner is reading something but RMS is not finding the item, take a look at the number that scans into notepad and try typing it into RMS - it is probably not found that way either. If it is, I'm stumped... Look at the barcode in Item Properties and in Notepad. Make sure there are no special characters or spaces at teh beginning or end of the code. Those may not display, but RMS looks at them when trying to match the lookup code.

Because I am in the process of my Grand Opening, I haven't had the opportunity to update, or even solve the issue in my original post. I coded and labeled over one thousand items, and the format I'm now using is, at least, working for my purposes.

I have done some research, which hopefully will assist with bar code issues for the future.

Hardware issues: a)The scanner must be enabled (programed) to read the specific bar code type you will be printing. b)The scanner has a minimum bar code length (width) it is capable of reading. Height does not appear to be so much of an issue.

Label Designer Wizard: Be sure that the object (element) fits within the parameters of your label size, and the objects do not over lap each other.

Label: Use a label size that meets the hardware and the Design Wizard parameters.
