Getting Started With Barcodes

Hi,

We've just opened our second retail clothing store. This expansion means we're going to have to start using barcodes to keep track of our inventory (inventory is now entered into RMS manually). The issue is we have no idea how to get started. Is there some sort of primer on barcodes and supply-chain management that we could use as a starting point? Does anyone have any suggestions/experiences with barcodes and RMS they'd be willing to share? We'd really like to build this thing properly from the start.

TIA

Nate,

You can print you own barcode labels using either Avery Labels and a Laser printer or a label printer such as a Zebra LP 2824 or a Barcode Blaster. If you decide to use a label printer you will need a label custom made for what ever size of label you choose. First thing you have to do is set all your Items to have a Barcode Format Code 128B. You can do this by running a query on your database. Be sure to due a manual backup before performing the following. Open Store Ops Admin. Connect to Database. Query menu --> New Query Copy and paste update item set barcodeformat = '7' Press F5 You should get a message that says Query executed successfully:

xxx records(s) affected.

Now using the label wizard you can start printing labels for all your items. Check the Help file for more detailed functionality of the Label Wizard.
